Volunteer: As a hotline volunteer, you will answer the
hotline providing information, crisis intervention counseling,
shelter in-takes, and possible referrals to appropriate agencies.
Completing the 40-hour volunteer training is a prerequisite for this
position. Volunteers will begin by shadowing current staff
members.

 Bilingual
Volunteer: Bilingual Volunteers will assist in
answering hotline calls, working in the shelter with non-English
speaking clients, and translating written material. Responsibilities
are essentially similar to that of a hotline volunteer with the
additional requirement of speaking a language other than English
(including American Sign Language). Additional responsibilities to
include translating for Welfare to Work case management staff Friday
mornings and as needed.

 Adult
Support Group Co-Facilitator: Support Group
Co-Facilitators may co-facilitate either sexual assault survivors
support groups or domestic violence survivors support groups
(H.E.A.R.T.). Depending on the nature of the group, the
co-facilitator will be either the Adult Sexual Assault Victim
Advocate or the Domestic Violence Victim Advocate. Hours for this
position are primarily weekday evenings. Completing the 40-hour
volunteer training is a prerequisite for this position as well as
some shadowing of advocates and a demonstration of readiness to take
on this level of responsibility.

 Family
Violence Victim Advocate Assistant: The Family
Violence Victim Advocate Assistant will work with the Family
Violence Victim Advocate in criminal court, providing support and
information to all victims of family violence crimes. The FVAA will
work closely with lawyers, judges, and family relations to express
the victim’s voice in court. Duties include contacting clients at
court as well as via mail and telephone. Hours for this position are
weekday mornings. Completing the 40-hour volunteer training and a
demonstration of readiness to take on this level of responsibility
are prerequisites for this position. Staff FVVA will screen for this
volunteer position.

 Childcare
Volunteer: Child care volunteers will provide care and
supervision to children whose mothers may be living in shelter,
transitional house, and/or attending a program or group offered by
Susan B. Anthony Project. Hours may vary depending on specific needs
but are generally in the late afternoons. The staff Child Advocate
or Volunteer Coordinator will screen childcare volunteers.

 Special
Event Planning Assistant:
Special Event Planning
Assistants assist in all aspects of pre-planning, on-site and follow
up activities related to special event planning. These duties may
include administration for advertising and mailing and other duties
as assigned. Computer skills are a plus. The Director of Development
will provide training to individuals interested in assisting in
planning of the annual fund raising event held in the spring and
other fund raising activities. Interested volunteers can also work
with the Sexual Assault Awareness Month (April) Planning Committee
and/or Domestic Violence Awareness Month (October) Planning
Committee to plan the respective awareness months.

Community
Education Volunteer:
Community education volunteers
will assist the community educator with presentations in classroom,
professional and summer camp settings. Responsibilities may include
assisting in all aspects of preparation for speaking engagements,
co-facilitation of teen groups, assisting in classroom presentations
dealing with a range of topics, acting as a puppeteer in a “safe
touch” puppet show, and/or sharing personal stories related to
domestic violence and sexual assault with various community groups.
Completing the 40-hour training for this position is not required,
though it is highly recommended. Men are highly encouraged to
participate as community education volunteers.

 Receptionist Volunteer: The
receptionist volunteer will answer the office phone line the first
Wednesday of every month from 1 – 2:30 while staff attends the
monthly staff meeting. It is not necessary to complete the 40-hour
training for this position.

 Office
Volunteer: Office volunteers will provide a variety of
services needed to assist the Susan B. Anthony Project.
Responsibilities may include assisting in fund raising mailings,
distributing and selling wreaths, shredding documents and other
responsibilities as deemed helpful. Hours will be during the day;
training not required for this position.

 Transportation Volunteer: The
transportation volunteer will drive clients to appointments and to
errands in the Susan B. Anthony van. Ideally, this volunteer will
establish hours in which they can volunteer on a weekly basis. No
training is required; a copy of the volunteer’s license and
insurance card must be given to the administrative
assistant.

 STRIVE
(Seeking To Realize Independent Values & Esteem) Volunteer:
STRIVE volunteers will work with STRIVE case manager to
provide support and information to women in transition.
Responsibilities may include developing resumes or work plans for
clients, helping to develop resources and assisting with self-esteem
groups or other informational workshops.

Susan B. Anthony welcomes any additional suggestions that you may

that you could provide not on this list. Our training sessions are
generally held in the autumn on evenings and weekends. Training may
be more often depending on interest – please call us if you are
