The goal of the Community Partnership Team is to create multi-disciplinary, comprehensive teams to respond to and prevent domestic violence, thereby creating a coordinated community response.
The creation or enhancement of collaborations between state and private agencies, police departments, judicial officials, community groups, health organizations, faith based groups and business organizations enables us to:
- Enhance the safety of abused victims in the rural northwest CT.
- Improve access to services and interventions for victims
- Enhance community awareness and understanding of domestic violence
- Promote greater offender accountability
Our program is designed utilizing the “Duluth Model.” The Domestic Abuse Intervention Project (DAIP) in Duluth, Minnesota, has created a comprehensive community-based program for intervention in domestic abuse cases. It attempts to coordinate the response of the many agencies and practitioners who respond to domestic violence cases in the community. The project involves community organizing and advocacy that examines training programs, policies, procedures and texts to determine how each practice, procedure, form or brochure either enhances or compromises victim safety. The mission is to focus work on eliminating battering, while working collaboratively with other progressive agencies or organizations that are seeking to reduce violence within our society.
As part of the Community Partnership Team, we bring together, domestic violence workers, practitioners in the criminal and civil justice systems, human service providers, community activists, and others who take leadership in their communities' efforts to improve the effectiveness of intervention in domestic violence cases. This happens through individual Think Tanks, general Partnership Team Meetings, public awareness campaigns, newsletters and trainings. Some of the Think Tanks are:
Faith Based
Health Care
Latino: Voces de la Comunidad
Law Enforcement/Judicial
Multi Media Toolkit
Public Awareness
Town Liaison
